7 Tips to Saving Money on Your Mattress

June 13, 2018 by Ankit Agarwal

You know it’s about time to change your mattress, but you’re concerned that such a purchase might mess up your budget, since a quality product may be expensive. But what if I told you that there are methods to save money when buying a new bed? All you need to do is put things into perspective and follow a few tips which will help you find the best deal while still investing in an excellent mattress.

First of all, let’s talk about perspective: if you continue sleeping on a worn-off bed, your health will suffer, and you will still have to buy a new one, but you will also pay out to fix the problems generated by a lousy sleep. Overall, you might end up spending more money than you would have given on a new mattress. The wisest decision is to invest in due time.

Secondly, I wasn’t joking when talking about tips to help you save money, especially if you’re on a tight budget. Let’s explore some of them:

Do your research

It’s essential to decide what you are looking for in a new mattress before starting to check out retailers, brands, and stores. Consider your sleeping style, your health issues, if any, your preferences – but also the ones of your partner. All those aspects create your sleeping profile which you need to take into account when reading reviews about various products, to see what would be recommended for you.

Buy online

Most online retailers offer great deals when buying from them. Since their costs are lower than the ones of traditional stores, they can reduce product prices and also throw in benefits on the side, such as free accessories, no-charge delivery and extended sleep-trial periods.

Avoid additional fees

Buying online brings another advantage: the customized professional assistance. Ask all your questions, mainly about the return policy and take into consideration the retailers who have no additional fees for returning the product (or for its delivery).

Look for freebies

Talk to the retailer about freebies! You could ask for a new mattress frame (included in the mattress price), the removal of your old mattress, a box spring, maybe some pillows or a mattress cover. If you get them at the cost of the bed, you won’t spend more money to purchase them independently.

Fish for promotions, but beware of sales hypes!

Using coupons, promo codes and hunting discounts are great ways of saving money when buying a new mattress. Most online retailers offer reasonable prices and bids during the holidays or on special occasions (Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s, etc.). Just make sure you don’t fall for sales hypes! They may advertise non-essential features (color, cover or others) at the expense of the ones that are genuinely decisive when buying a mattress: the level of comfort, firmness, the quality of the materials, the durability, lack of toxic ingredients and meeting all the safety requirements.

Check the warranty

An extended warranty may ensure the fact that you won’t have to buy another mattress after only one or two years of use. That’s why it is essential to check the guaranty granted by the retailer or the manufacturer. Most modern products provide extended warranties (at least ten years). Remember that the more reduced the bond, the lower the quality of the product, thus, the higher the risk of having to buy a new one way too soon.

Test in stores

I know a few of my friends who successfully used this method: they went out in traditional showrooms and tested several models of mattresses to find out what they wanted. Testing doesn’t cost money, and you don’t have to buy the product from that store. You can search for it online after deciding what you desire.

I hope all those tips will come in handy for you when starting to look for your new bed. No matter how tight your budget is, remember not to give up quality. And if you search well enough, you may even find retailers willing to accept an installment plan. Some might offer such an option during special promotions, when opening a new business or at the launch of a new product on the market. Happy hunting!
